WHOLE CHILD READING PROGRAM
New! All Bundles include our Comprehension Evaluation Series and “Your Recipe,” a Week-by-Week Guide to Teaching the Program
We designed our Whole Child Reading Program to be especially appealing to–and effective for–teaching children with Down syndrome, autism/ASD, ADD/ADHD, and other developmental delays.
A recent addition to our reading program is a Comprehension Evaluation Series, and we have taken great care to make sure it can be fully used by learners who are either nonverbal or have limited verbal skills.
Parents will be especially thrilled with our brand-new “Your Recipe” Week-by-Week Guide to teaching the program. We take you by the hand and lead you step by step.
“This program truly, truly works!”
“Thank you thank you!!! My first grader (with Down syndrome) received an Accelerated Reader award usually given to second-to-fourth graders. I cried while I filmed him walking down the aisle while the students chanted his name. Natalie, your program made this possible! I used your program the summer before Kinder, and he went into Kinder reading. We absolutely love and adore your program, and it truly, truly works!” -J.K., Florida
“Thank you for creating such an amazing resource”
“We have been using your Special Reads for Special Needs program at Notre Dame School since November 2016 and we LOVE this program! It has been a joy to watch our students learn new words and become more interested in books! Before this program one non-verbal student was unable to read simple words, and now she is reading not just words but BOOKS! We love how the pictures are so vibrant in color, and they really are self-explanatory due to how specific the graphics are. Thank you for creating such an amazing resource that can allow ALL students to learn how to read.” –C., K., & M., Educators, Canada

“We are ecstatic!”
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you!!!! After reading about your Fast Flash method, and following it at home, my 10-year-old son just two days ago read me his first 5 words!!!! To say he and I were ecstatic is an understatement.”- J.A., United Kingdom
“How do I know if this is the right level for my child?” We get this question often.
The emergent level is designed for a learner of any age who is just beginning to read. No previous success is necessary; it starts at ground zero and leads the learner through that first necessary word list, getting ready for the next more advanced level.
What if your learner is already reading some words? If your child knows fewer than 50-60 words, is unable to recognize them anywhere, and if your child is unable to fluently read the “I Said” book in the series (click on the “LOOK INSIDE” link below), then start with this level.
Mastery of a level includes not just recognizing a word on a flash card, but being able to generalize it (recognize it anywhere) and be comfortable fluently reading the I See, Look, and especially I Said books.
But if your learner can already easily do this level, then go to the Primer Level and look inside those pages. (Scroll down to the Primer Level section.)

NEW! Comprehension Evaluation Series
Our NEW Comprehension Evaluation Series is ready! We designed this series so that no verbal ability is required to complete these tests.
This series is ideal for educators who must evaluate reading comprehension regardless of a lower literacy level, and homeschoolers will find it a welcome and efficient tool for keeping track of comprehension progress.
This series tests comprehension of the first 3 Dolch Word List levels: Pre-Primer (Emergent), Primer, and First Grade. This series is designed to be used with our High Frequency Picture Books, which are included in all of our reading bundles.
This Comprehension Series can also be used independently of our High Frequency Book series, though students may not know the high interest words taught in our HF Books. In that case, this Comprehension Series can only test knowledge of the Dolch high frequency words for the first 3 levels, and will not test knowledge of various high interest words we use (pizza, dog, etc.).
Each level increases in difficulty; students in the first two Dolch levels are asked to silently read the sentence and mark or circle the correct picture.
At the advanced first grade level, two versions of each test are given: the first is color coded to show the answer to what is usually a “wh” question; the second version is without color. In this way, the first grade tests train the learner in referential comprehension: the student learns to refer back to the text to find the answer.
