8 MINUTES, 23 SECONDS in a World Where Everyone has Down Syndrome
“46/47” is a Short Film from Germany
This film is a real treat, short but powerful. Everyone in this imagined world has Down Syndrome except for one young man. He’s “handicapped” with 46 chromosomes; he’s deficient, less than, and struggles for self-acceptance. In German with English subtitles. I ordered it (ordering info below) and it’s stellar.
View The Trailer
Start here to see the teaser with English subtitles. That’s the Facebook link. If you’re not on FB, here’s another link with the teaser at the bottom of the screen; no English subtitles on that page, but don’t worry–it does come with the subtitles. And here is the filmmaker’s tag:
Daniel is different. He’s missing something. He only has 46 chromosomes where 47 should be. How does it feel to be “different”? People with Down syndrome stand out because of their typical physical features.
46/47 dares to attempt to show the world “from the other side”. Everyone has Down syndrome. Those with only 46 chromosomes are considered handicapped. Those like Daniel.

And here is the complete contact info for the filmmakers: Nadine Heinze & Marc Dietschreit, Sternbuschweg 54, 47057 Duisburg, Tel.: +49 1578 2661807, Mail: info@heinze-dietschreit.de, www.heinze-dietschreit.de
If my experience was standard, the makers of the film send it to you on the honor system; you pay after you receive the film. (I think they’re leading with their hearts here.) I eventually paid for the film through PayPal, and it cost just over $14 USD. I couldn’t get it to play on my Blu-Ray player (I assume Europe has a different system), but it worked just fine on my computer.
Tip: if you get an email from them that’s in German with no English translation included, no problem; just reply and ask them for English! That happened once for me.
Enjoy!
